If you grew up in England in the 1960s, you are probably looking at the picture of this guitar with a certain nostalgia. English made solid body guitars were an achievable dream, Fender and Gibson guitars were an expensive and hard to find proposition in the early days of British rock and roll. The humble Watkins Rapier 33 got you a lot of the way towards Hank Marvin’s red Stratocaster, without the price tag, or even just finding one for sale. So, what has this guitar got? 3 killer sounding pickups, a tremolo that belies it’s primitive design and stays in tune. The one we have here is in good nick, but has a new trem bar, neck plate and tuners. There are a couple of touch ups in the paint…but all in all, it plays great and has been recently set up with 11-50 DR Pure Blues strings that work very well. Made in England in 1967… and in everyones favourite colour, Hank Marvin red.
